Staff Writer, James Morrison of The Washington Times, states that, “The Maldives, once considered a liberal Islamic nation, has been increasingly adopting fundamentalist Muslim practices, hosting Taliban terrorists from Afghanistan and breeding a youth attracted to Islamic jihad. Many analysts report that Maldivian young people have been recruited by Pakistani terrorists.”
She also noted that some analysts say Maldives is a “paradise for Islamic radicalism.” It’s fine to hear some criticisms. We practice Islam; no freedom of religion in Maldives. Islam and Radicalism are not distinct in nature. The Anti-Islamist propaganda may lead to such ambiguity. We are following the Quran and Sunnah which was revealed to our Prophet Mohammad. It was nearly 1431 years back. Radicalism may mean to jihad, or else it may mean to refer and insult the Muslims.
I agree, that that one Maldivian, it’s Ibrahim Fauzee, was once arrest and had freed upon deterioration of the false imprisonment. He was based in Pakistan where he was arrested for the alleged connection to terrerorist organization, Al-Qaeda. Fauzee and innocent civilian, and there are many others in the said jail, under the control of a belligerent condition and in solitary confinement.
Americans did the mistake of arresting some innocent Muslims. So, who are we in remedying the defect? They are blaming on us, they are referring us as extremists, but we never support the jihadist. So, the wrong interpretation has made us to deny the offer of resettling the Guantanamo Bay detainees in Maldives.
